Thermal Inkjet (TIJ) Printers
TIJ printers use a replaceable thermal print cartridge to produce high-resolution text, barcodes and QR codes — typically 300–600 DPI — on cartons, labels, films and boxes. They are cleaner and easier to maintain than CIJ, with no solvent handling.

| Model | Configuration | Print lines | Technology | Print height | Max speed | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TIJ Online | Conveyor mounted | Variable | Thermal inkjet (TIJ2.5) | 1–12.7 mm | up to 150 m/min | Sharp, high-resolution codes on cartons and labels at line speed. |
| TIJ Handheld | Portable | Variable | Thermal inkjet (TIJ2.5) | 1–12.7 mm | hand speed | Low-volume coding, rework and coding large or fixed products. |
What you can mark, and how
| Material | Best fit | Typical result | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cartons and corrugated | TIJ 600 DPI | Crisp text, barcodes and QR codes | Porous surfaces print best |
| Labels and film | TIJ cartridge | High-resolution variable data | Glossy film needs a sample test |
| Boxes and timber | TIJ Handheld | Codes on large or fixed products | Battery powered |

Common questions
TIJ vs CIJ: which is better for my product?
TIJ gives higher resolution and simpler maintenance on cartons, labels and film. CIJ is better for curved, uneven and very high-speed products. The right choice depends on the surface and line speed.
What is the maximum print height?
12.7 mm per print head. Taller codes can be built with multiple heads or by printing in sections.
Can it print on glossy film?
Yes, with the correct ink and surface treatment. Glossy or non-porous film should be sample-tested before ordering.
How long does a cartridge last?
Cartridge life depends on code size, density and print count. We estimate consumption from your code layout.
Can it run on a conveyor?
Yes. The online model mounts over a conveyor and uses a sensor or encoder trigger.

High-resolution codes without solvent handling
Online or handheld
The online model mounts over a conveyor and prints at up to 150 m/min within a 12.7 mm print height. The handheld model uses the same cartridge technology on a battery-powered body, for warehouse marking, rework, large cartons and products that cannot be moved onto a line.
Where TIJ stops
The 12.7 mm print height per head is the main limit. Taller codes need multiple heads or a different technology. Glossy and non-porous films should be sample-tested, because ink adhesion varies by surface.
Choosing a TIJ inkjet printer for cartons and film
A TIJ inkjet printer uses a replaceable thermal cartridge, so there is no ink circuit to flush and no solvent to handle. That makes it a good fit for cartons, labels, boxes and film where the surface is flat and the code needs to be sharp: up to 600 DPI, with QR codes and small text that scanners read first time.
Cartridge, substrate and duty cycle
The cartridge decides the ink, not the printer. Solvent-based cartridges adhere to coated cartons and film; water-based cartridges suit porous paper and corrugated board. Check the duty cycle before choosing a handheld unit for production: a cartridge is economical for low and medium volume, while a continuous line may need a larger cartridge or a different technology.
Choose online TIJ for conveyor work and handheld TIJ for rework and low-volume marking. If the product is curved or the line is very fast, compare with a CIJ printer. Background: thermal inkjet.
